AADOCR SCADA/Dentsply Sirona Research Award

This award is designed to support the academic and scientific development of dentist-scientists toward an independent research career or a new area of research. Recipients will receive up to $10,000 that is intended to be put towards the candidate’s research, establishment of their research infrastructure, the completion of a research project, or preparing research for publication. As part of the terms of the award, the recipient must submit a report within 12 months of receipt of the award funding which describes the results of the progress achieved as a result of the award.

The AADOCR SCADA/Dentsply Sirona Research Award is open to individuals that fulfill all the four criteria below:
1.    Members of IADR/AADOCR
2.    Individuals who hold a DDS, DMD and/or BDS
3.    Dentist-scientists who have demonstrated a commitment to a research career in dental, oral and/or craniofacial sciences, as well as academic research promise, which will be evaluated based on the candidate’s CV, proposed research project, and the support demonstrated in the supervisor/department head letter, and
4.    Post-doctoral scholars, instructors, or professors (or equivalents) at an accredited dental school or academic research center. 

Note: Preference will be placed on applicants that are alumni of the SCADA program. Emphasis will then be place on applicants that are in early career stages, such as post-doctoral scholars and pre-tenure dentist-scientists. 
 

The application package includes:

• a letter of support from the applicant’s research supervisor or department chair,
• an outline of the candidate’s project (not more than four pages), 11 pt. font, including:
  • a project description, (excluding references) which should include your hypothesis, methodology, plans for publications/presentations, and
  •  realistic timeline for the project, as well as
  •  a description of how the award will impact future research to be conducted and how it will foster your career,
•  the candidate’s CV or biosketch (not more than five pages), and
• budget and budget justification demonstrating how $10,000 will be spent on travel, supplies, manuscript fees, and/or other support related to training and/or career development.
   

Applicants will be evaluated by a Special Committee of nine (9) members made up of four SCADA Board alumni and five IADR/AAADOCR members. Review will be based on scholarly excellence; quality and originality of projects; active commitment toward a career in dental, oral and craniofacial research; and personal needs related to challenges and/or obstacles in pursuit of an academic career.  The Committee's decision will be made in December and the recipient will be notified thereafter. The award recipient will be formally announced at the AADOCR Annual Meeting and SCADA Awards Ceremony.

One award per year in the amount of $10,000 will be made. This award is intended to provide travel, supplies, manuscript fees, and/or other support related to training and career development during the award period. This award will be made to the institution and no indirect costs (F&A) shall be allowed.

The Award is supported by a generous donation from the SCADA Board of Directors with matching funds and AADOCR.
