Alexandria, VA – Members of the American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) have elected Nisha D’Silva, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, as Vice-president and Abraham Schneider, University of Maryland, Baltimore as AADOCR Representative to the IADR/AADOCR Publications Committee. Their terms will commence at the conclusion of the 53rd Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, which will be held in conjunction with the 102nd General Session of the IADR and the 48th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, from March 13-16, 2024 in New Orleans, LA.
D’Silva received her dental degree at the University of Bombay, India, followed by a Residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and Master’s degree at Indiana University, Indianapolis. She obtained her PhD at the University of Washington, Seattle. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, which is her area of clinical practice. Her translational research in oral cancer focuses on biomarkers and molecular mechanisms of tumor progression and treatment resistance. She has published over 100 papers in well-respected journals including Journal of Dental Research, Journal of Experimental Medicine, Clinical Cancer Research, and Nature Communications.
D’Silva received the Distinguished Scientist Award for Oral Medicine and Pathology Research from the IADR, and the Rod Cawson Prize from the International Association of Oral Pathologists and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. She is a Fellow of the AADOCR.
Abraham Schneider has been a member of IADR/AADOCR since 2000 and is a faculty member and director of the Dental Biomedical Sciences PhD program at the University of Maryland. Schneider is involved in all aspects central to Maryland’s institutional mission, including educational, research, service, and mentoring activities at the predoctoral, postgraduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral training levels.
One of the key priorities driving his scientific career is to advance dental, oral, and craniofacial research and create new knowledge by fostering transdisciplinary, team-based partnerships as evidenced by his federally-funded research program.
He is currently a member of the AADOCR Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and has served on the Constitution, Ethics, Government Affairs, and Hatton Awards Committees, and served as Chair of the latter. He has been a reviewer for the Journal of Dental Research since 2010 and currently serves on its Editorial Board.
