AADR Elects Carmem Pfeifer as AADR Representative to the IADR/AADR Publications Committee

PfeiferAlexandria, Va., USA – Members of the American Association for Dental Research (AADR) have elected Carmem Pfeifer, Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, USA, to serve as the 2021-24 AADR Representative to the IADR/AADR Publications Committee. Her term will commence at the conclusion of the 50th Annual Meeting of the AADR, which will be held in conjunction with the 99th General Session of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR)and the 45th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research (CADR), from July 21-24, 2021 in Boston, Mass.

Pfeifer received her D.D.S. and Ph.D. from the University of São Paulo, Brazil and completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado, School of Dentistry and Chemical and Biological Engineering, Aurora/Boulder. She is currently an Associate Professor of Biomaterials and Biomechanics at Oregon Health & Science University, Portland, USA.

Pfeifer’s background is in dental materials and polymer chemistry, including real-time material property development and testing under simulated physiological environments in resin and composite restoratives. Her research focus is on the development of innovative polymeric materials for restorative dentistry, as well as on the development of analytical tools to characterize polymer properties evolution in real-time. She has been continuously funded by the NIH-NIDCR since 2013, and recently received the NIDCR Award for Sustaining Outstanding Achievement in Research (SOAR – R35).

An IADR/AADR member since 2005, Pfeifer has held several IADR and AADR leadership and volunteer positions. She is currently a Member-at-Large on the AADR Board of Directors (2018-21) and served as a Journal of Dental Research Editorial Board Member (2015-18). Pfeifer served on the IADR Ethics Committee (2016-17) and as Treasurer, Secretary and President of the AADR Portland Section (2011-18). Pfeifer is the current President of the IADR Dental Materials Group, having served as Secretary/Treasurer and Vice-president, and has been highly involved in the activities and governance including serving as an abstract reviewer for the polymeric materials group (2009-10), a sub-group program chair for the polymeric materials group since 2011 and an overall group program chair for the 2020 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session & Exhibition.
