John Stamm Named 2020 Recipient of the AADR Presidential Citation

Alexandria, Va., USA, May 6, 2020 – The American Association for Dental Research (AADR) announced John Stamm, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA is the 2020 recipient of the AADR Presidential Citation.

Stamm received his dental education in Canada graduating from the University of Alberta and went on to receive a DDPh from the University of Toronto. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health. He began his academic career at McGill University where he became Professor and Chair of Community Dentistry. Stamm joined the faculty at the University of North Carolina serving as a professor and Director of the Dental Research Center. He served there as Dean of the dental school from 1989 to 2004 and returned as Interim Dean from 2010-2011.

Stamm joined the IADR in 1975 where he served as President of the Canadian Division from 1982-1984 and served as Treasurer from of IADR from 1997-2001. He joined the AADR when he came to the United States in 1985 and served in a variety of capacities. He served as the IADR Finance Committee Chair from 2000 to 2001, and as the IADR Nominating Committee Chair from 2007 to 2008. Stamm also served as Chair of the IADR Innovation in Oral Care Awards Committee. Stamm has served on numerous editorial boards, NIH study sections, ADA Councils and as an advisor for the World Health Organization.

The AADR Presidential Citation acknowledges an AADR member or members, including individual members, Corporate and Institutional Section members, who by the assessment of the AADR President, have made significant contributions to the Association over a period of time, shown dedication to the Association; and have helped to further the mission of the AADR through their service and commitment.

Due to the cancellation of the 2020 IADR/AADR/CADR General Session, the award was given locally.
