Alexandria, VA – The American Association for Dental, Oral, and Craniofacial Research (AADOCR) has announced Katherine Hammitt as the 2025 recipient of the AADOCR Jack Hein Public Service Award. Hammitt, from Sjögren's Foundation, Reston, VA, was recognized during the Opening Ceremonies of the 54th Annual Meeting of the AADOCR, which was held in conjunction with the 49th Annual Meeting of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, on March 12-15, 2024 in New York, NY.
Hammitt is the Vice President of Medical & Scientific Affairs at the Sjögren’s Foundation, where she oversees medical and scientific initiatives to improve public knowledge about Sjögren’s, allow for the exchange of ideas to accelerate research, and improve treatment of the disease. The Sjögren’s Foundation partners with the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health (FNIH) to help accelerate the discovery of biomarkers in Sjögren’s. Hammitt manages that relationship and serves on the FNIH Biomarkers Consortium Sjögren’s Working Group, as well as the FNIH Inflammation and Immunity Steering Committee. She also serves on the Sjögren’s disease team for the NIH’s Accelerated Medicines Partnership® Autoimmune and Immune-Mediated Disease Program (AMP AIM) initiative.
Hammitt has authored or co-authored numerous textbook chapters on autoimmune disease and Sjögren’s, CME programs, and articles for medical and scientific journal publications on Sjögren’s and is a frequent speaker on Sjögren’s for patient, healthcare provider, and corporate meetings. She served on the AADOCR Board of Directors as the Patient Advocate Representative
in 2018-19.
AADOCR established the Jack Hein Public Service Award to honor those AADOCR members who have given exemplary service in the area of public affairs by consistently promoting the interests and activities of oral health research to a wide constituency. The recipients are selected by the AADOCR Government Affairs Committee.
